Sunday, Sept 20, 2009, 12 pm to 7 pm — Brooklyn Urban Arts Market — That’s Where You’ll Find Me

From the Myrtle Minute:

Party and shop locally through out September! The Brooklyn Urban Arts Market returns to Clinton Hill on all four Sundays this September, taking place on Myrtle Avenue between Emerson and Grand near the PrattStore. This is Brooklyn’s answer to those commonplace street fairs that take place in Manhattan – this open-air market will house 50 local artisans, vendors, and entrepreneurs hand-selected for their innovative creations, fresh urban perspective and DIY spirit.

The music is back too, and we’re happy to report that local favorites Soul Summit will spin the closing set at every event! We’re bringing back live music too, with a special treat for the kids – each event will kick off with a youth band, including the School of Rock All Stars!

We’ve added a new dimension to this year’s event – we’re actually closing 7 blocks on Myrtle Avenue from Emerson to Clinton as part of DOT’s Weekend Walks Initiative. Move About Myrtle will take place at the same time as BUAM, and will transform the Clinton Hill portion of Myrtle into an active, pedestrian-friendly public space perfect for walking, cycling, dancing, and people-watching.

As if Move About Myrtle isn’t enough, you can be sure that we’ll be working to help our existing merchants take advantage of this flurry of foot traffic – we’ve got a number of plans in the works to get our visitors to travel the avenue, including the distribution of our new shopping guide and a sort of Myrtle Avenue shopping scavenger hunt (more on that soon).

Check back in early August at the Myrtle Minute or at our partner’s website, for the more info and the latest updates. Major funding for the Brooklyn Urban Arts Market was generously provided by Deutsche Bank Foundation.

Sounds like fun so come join me. I’ll have back to school goodies and some early holiday offerings.

Saturday’s Curves and Cocktails event

That’s me holding one of my new Curvy Girl Cards. (From Masque Magazine’s site)

Sorry for the delay on the recap. I had to finish up a Organizational Behavior paper I had due. 😛
As usual, I was running a bit late. Wardrobe malfunction. I just could not find a thing to wear. I wanted a red shirt but couldn’t find one that fit right. (Seven weeks into a workout routine and my body is still figuring out where it wants to be.) So I find an old halter top…not my first choice but I really didn’t think I should go for anything where the “girls” would be on display. I’m selling paper here, okay.

I didn’t know quite what to expect. Not only was this my first time as a vendor at this type of event, it was my first time attending one. Plus I had been saving my new Curvy Girl collection to be launched special at Curves and Cocktails.

What can I say…Aja and crew did their thing!

The location was perfect. Intimate but bright and a perfect backdrop for the variety of vendors present. My girl Yania was selling her fabulous jewelry across the room where it twinkled in the sun. Fellow vendors and customers were friendly even some introduced themselves while browsing my table. I spent alot of time speaking with fashion consultant and designer, Darryl Jagga, who was my table neighbor. You really need to look at his design book and he specializes in plus sizes. TO DIE FOR.

I admit I had a moment where I was a bit starstruck. First Maddy Jones of Plus Model Magazine stopped by my table where she was joined by Mia Amber Davis. Aaack!!! She is like one of my plus size model idols. (I promise I’m not a perv, Mia, but you are even more gorgeous in person.)

I also had the chance to meet quite a few people in the blogsphere including bloggers for Luvin My Curves, Masque Magazine, and Style Without Limit. All added to my Twitter and Google Reader.

Best part, the end of the day old school mix by DJ Stealth. Good music always make cleaning go fast.

Great vibe, great food, great fun! And oh yeah, great selling day too! Hey when you can make money and have fun, its “A Good Day”.

I made sure to let Aja know I’m available for any event she wants me. And I absolutely mean it. Great show, well organized, and great people. Would definitely work with them again.

Handmade Faire WrapUp – Finally!!!

Well last week I did the Handmade Faire in Waretown, NJ. What an absolutely awesome show! Well organized and great vendors. Abbie and Pola did a first class job! It was my first showing of just my own products and I realize I really have to get cracking on my production and displays. Got to meet more members of the EtsyNJ Team and even picked up alittle something for myself and the kid from Kecia of Lemoncholy’s.

OMG! Can I just say her stuff is AMAZING!! I had to drag myself away from the table with one item for me and one for the kid. I can only hope to be at her level of design with collage/mixed media.
